Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures have four clear, distinct seasons, making it the perfect place for enjoying amazing outdoor weekends.  Each season there are many interesting places to visit, exciting adventures, and things to do.  Our members love living around Tokyo during the week, then getting out for fresh air and fun activities on the weekend.  We aim to organize weekend trips and activities on an irregular basis for the purpose of having fun and fulfilled weekends with like-minded people, enabling us to recharge our batteries to get through the coming (tough?) week!

Most of our activities or trips have small groups (5-15 people depending on the activity).  This is the perfect size for easily getting to know your fellow weekenders.  Often more than half of participants are individuals and first-timers, and many of them are likely to become repeaters.  Males, females, individuals, and groups of any nationality, who respect locals and other people, who are easygoing, and love being outdoors are invited to join our group.

パトリックは5月27日に40歳を迎えます。40歳は特別な歳なので夕方17時から誕生日を迎える夜まで森の中のダンスに皆さんをご招待したいと思います。日没のダンススケジュールは土曜日の18時からです。誕生日の乾杯をした後は4つのバンガローを無料で使えますのでみんなで雑魚寝して下さい。寝袋、歯ブラシ、バーベキュー用のお肉や飲み物は持参して下さい。音楽は日曜日の朝からお昼ぐらいまでまた流します。

渋谷から13時ごろ湘南新宿線に乗り、高崎に到着(約2000円)高崎から榛名湖行きの最終バスは15時30分(約1000円)に出発します。森には16時30分頃到着です。テントを組み立てたり、焚き火用の木を切って下さい。

Patric will be turning 40 on May 27.  It feels like a special number so he’d like to invite you for a dance in the woods from 5pm to midnight the day before.  Sunset dance scheduled for 6pm on Saturday, May 26.  After a “prost” at midnight everyone is welcome to wildly mingle in one of 4 bungalows, for free.  Bring your sleeping bag, toothbrush, steak, and drinks.  Music restarts in time for breakfast on Sunday morning and finishes around noon.

Depart by LATEST 1pm from Shibuya heading straight to Takasaki (2,000 Yen) on the Shonan-Shinjuku / Takasaki Line.  The last bus heading for Mt Haruna (1,000 Yen) departs from Takasaki at 3:30pm.  You'll then arrive in the woods by 4:30pm.  Time to set up your tent and make firewood.

Patric asks for a mere 500 Yen DJ contribution per person.  That's all.  This 24h field trip shouldn't cost you more than 10,000 Yen all-in-all.  Fun and adventures guaranteed.

2012 Opening Offer

Tokyo, Chiba, and Gunma: Anyone up for a brief weekday vacation? I'll be up in the woods from March 16 to 19 with little Felix. American hippies from the 70s with dogs are enjoying the campsite up at Mt Haruna. Are you ready to break free?  Or still think you're the only one so busy?

Definitely more time was spent outside back in the 70s.  A time when phones and TVs were not transportable.  And if you were forced by any given situation to go back in time, you'd adjust in a matter of months, weeks, if not days.  What do you say?

Every now and again, it's nice to enjoy a drink in good company.  So join together with fellow hosts and travelers at Combine in Nakameguro from 7pm to 9pm this Thursday, December 1.  Drinks and light snacks are on the house.

Snowmobile tours are run on weekends twice a month during white season from December 17, 2011 to March 18, 2012.  The prize includes half day of guided snowmobile riding for two, worth 16,000 Yen, which is transferable to your friends.  Heated bungalow accomodation, BBQ and breakfast are priced at 6,000 Yen per person for those who wish to stay over the weekend.

2. Go Volcano Boarding - Nicaragua

Snow boarding is old school. The latest extreme way to slide a slope can be found at Cerro Negro in Nicaragua.  The live volcano, which erupted as recently as 1999, has become a hot spot for extreme boarders.  Boarders can reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour as they course down the volcano's sides.  The day trip, run by Bigfoot Nicaragua, includes a hike through the landscape, a boarding session and a couple of mojitos to cool down with afterwards.

3. Enter the Cage of Death - Australia

Stare into the faces of some of Australia's biggest saltwater crocodiles for 15 minutes, separated by nothing more than a couple inches of perspex.  Luckily the cage can house two people at one time, so there'll be someone there to hold your hand.

群馬県の榛名山の森の中の居心地の良いキャンプ場で7歳から12歳の7人の子供たちが3日間の冒険をしました。大自然と滝に囲まれて過ごしました。子供たちは経験豊富なキャンプロードレスサマーのミカエラ・チャットマンによる指導で無限の創造力を表現して楽しみました。アブセイリングミーのパトリック・シュポーンはキャンプの間、常に若者たちにスリルを提供できるよう探していました。リバートレッキング、フライングフォックスやマウンテンボーディングがアクティビティのリストにあります。子供たちはTシャツにペイントしたり、絵を描いたり、歌を歌ったり、詩の朗読をしたり、パンケーキを焼いたり、薪を割ったり、ハンバーガーを焼いたり、花火をしたり、最新の動きのダンスをしました。何人かの子供たちが「ずっとずっーとここに居たいよー」。と叫んでいるのを聞きました。

7 kids, ages 7 to 12, completed a 3-day adventure art camp on a cozy mountain campsite in the woods of Mt. Haruna in Gunma.  They were surrounded by nature and waterfalls.  The kids were able to freely express themselves and unlock their imagination, skillfully guided by Michaela Chatman of Camp Roadless Summer.  Patric Spohn of AbseilingMe provided the thrill that every youngster is looking for during a camp.  River trekking, flying fox, and mountain boarding were on the list of activities.  The kids also painted shirts, drew pictures, sang songs, wrote poems, cooked pancakes, cut firewood, barbequed hamburgers, lit fireworks, and danced to latest moves.  Some kids were heard saying out loud; "I want to stay here forever!"

Can't believe after months of wrangling we were able to hold an Open House in Gunma! So we were dancing the day away, sliding down mountain hills, smacking on s'mores, and escaping the Tokyo humidity!

It was great to meet all of the new Roadsters who didn't even know that there was a such thing as an English summer camp dedicated to the Performing Arts. We went deep into the woods and learned a few simple dance routines. The shade from the trees kept us cool! We sang some old favorites just to warm up, Row, Row, Row Your Boat and She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain! Then the dance teacher taught us a few hip-hop moves from Beyonce's new single, Let's Move!
